How Swede it is!

So, basically this little Swedish gem (helped back into reissue by none other than Mats Gustafsson) is truly impressive. What ever happened to these guys? As far as I know, this is the only album that got released from the group. There is some great energy on this album, with some true blowout moments mixed in with some nice rhythms and melodies. Their version of Ornette's "Ramblin'" really jams and Orinoco has a wonderful ominous beginning and Holmstrom really gets into it. I can't remember how I even learned about this album, but it is definitely a keeper--its a shame this is the only recorded version of their work. This one is a little less abstract than the last post, and a great overall listen. Enjoy!

a year since i heard the band, first time i've heard the whole album. mats g did us all a big favour by revealing this to the outside world!

that "spirits" riff really grabs you hard right from the word go, but for a weird two or three seconds it could go either way: a great tribute or an awful travesty, the tenor having almost an r&b "honk" flavour to it and the drummer sounding for a brief moment as if he's about to launch into a straight rock 4/4 - then we're all clear and sailing!

the sax player really blows his head off throughout the session, it has to be said. the r-section isn't quite of the same quality... but they keep up pretty well, and the whole thing is so obviously infused by joyous fire and spirit that it would be invidious to single anyone out for criticism.

i'll make a pact with myself - one of these days i WILL buy it then pass on my cdr to someone else. meantime - thanks j :)

Hi Centrifuge,
Man, I should have you write about these albums. I couldn't agree more with your comment about the joyous fire throughout the album. I had thrown this back on my iPod about a month ago and it struck me as something that needed to get out there for people to check into. It really pulls you in!

About the availability, I did some more searching around the Internet for the album. It appears that no one is producing copies of it anymore, but that a limited number of stores still carry copies. I'll leave the link up for a little while longer and then remove it. I think I feel the same way you do about that issue--maybe that is why I am such a big fan of the Church Number 9 site. I'll be sure to leave the post, though--even if people catch this too late, its something they definitely should check out and hear!

Thanks for the ICP link by the way and all of the great comments. Glad you are enjoying the album!

Here's the Shepp I promised the other day:-

Archie Shepp Quintet - One For The Trane

Donaueschinger Musiktage 21 Oct 1967

Archie Shepp: Tenor
Roswell Rudd: Trombone
Grachan Moncur III: Trombone
Jimmy Garrison: Bass
Beaver Harris: Drums

One For The Trane - Part 1
One For The Trane - Part 2

The 1st part starts off with a 6 minute bass solo, so stick with it. The whole thing is a single tune spans both sides of the LP.

(I gave up on rapidshare today - kept crashing)

I have a copy of Roswell Rudd's Everywhere which I can put up at some time in the future if anyone's interested. I don't think it's available.
I also have a rip (not from my own vinyl) of Grachan Moncur's New Africa (which has Roscoe Mitchell and Shepp), which I can recommend, but I see that it can be obtained on CD, with another album of his from amazon for about $12. Well worth it.

hi guys

excuse the silence. i spend enough time online as it is ;-)

b, i only just got round to pulling your shepp file ... was overloaded last week. sound is a lot better than the shows from the same period that the church had up a few months ago... the bass solo is a bit of an eye-opener, garrison makes some good use of the space but up front like that? was there a reason? hmmm.

more later perhaps...

Hello. My wife and I bought our house about 6 months ago. It was a foreclosure and we were able to get a great deal on it. We also took advantage of the 8K tax credit so that definitely helped. We did an extensive remodeling job and now I want to refinance to cut the term to a 20 or 15 year loan. Does anyone know any good sites for mortgage information? Thanks!

It was on the newspaper when he saw the watch again. How time flies! 50 years had passed since he saw it the last time. He never stopped finding it during the 50 years. He was too old to remember too many things. However, everything about her was still engraved in his mind and never disappeared.louis vuitton glasses
The Datejust II was released in 2009 as the follow of the significant Datejust, which is the ultimate reference chosen by those who long for timeless elegance. The high quality white printed dial screwed in crown logo, clear Roman numerals, silver alternating with gold band make this classical wristwatch. It has thick, heavy, solid presidental style bracelet, which is both endurable and traditional. The screw threads around the dial add some complexion and uniqueness. It is a rare combination of 904L steel and 18 ct yellow gold. All gentle and mature men will not miss this watch. The brief and luxury appearance and practical function make it suitable for both formal and informal occasions. The good reputation makes the consumers choose Rolex watches at ease since only perfect watches are sold.
